Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson, aged 24, tragically lost his life alongside two others in a car accident early Saturday morning in Prince George’s County, Maryland, as confirmed by Maryland State Police.
Jackson was seated in the front passenger seat of a Dodge Charger involved in a three-car collision in Upper Marlboro. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene, along with Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, both former high school football teammates of Jackson at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Maryland.
In response to the heartbreaking news, the Minnesota Vikings issued a statement expressing their profound sorrow and extending support to Jackson’s family. They have also offered counseling to players, coaches, and staff affected by the tragedy.
According to police reports, the Charger was struck by a silver Infiniti traveling northbound on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue. The Infiniti, driven by Cori Clingman, reportedly attempted a lane change at high speed, first colliding with the Charger and then with a Chevrolet Impala. Subsequently, the Charger veered off the road, striking multiple tree stumps before coming to a halt.
Hazel, who was driving the Charger, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Lytton Jr., seated in the rear, was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities suspect alcohol may have played a role in the crash, though investigations are ongoing.
In a statement, the NFL expressed deep sadness over the untimely passing of Khyree Jackson, emphasizing their condolences to his family, friends, and all affected by this tragic event.
Jackson was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, following his collegiate career at the University of Alabama and the University of Oregon, where he concluded his football journey in 2023.
