Universal Pictures has officially scheduled the release of “Shrek 5” for July 1, 2026. This highly anticipated installment from DreamWorks Animation will see the return of the beloved original cast members Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz.

The announcement of the date gives the celebrated animated franchise a launchpad for the five-day holiday weekend surrounding the Fourth of July in the United States. This marks the first episode in the 23-year old series since Shrek Forever After was released in 2010.
Myers is the voice of the green ogre while Diaz plays Princess Fiona and Murphy is Shrek’s sidekick Donkey.
The studio announced the news via social media. Murphy made the announcement during a recent press tour for Netflix’s Beverley Hill cop: Axel F, when he stated that he already had recorded lines for the feature. He also said he anticipated a Donkey sequel, similar to Puss In Boots.
Walt Dohrn, the Trolls director, will direct Shrek 5. He worked as writer and artist on the second, third, and fourth films, and was the head of story for the fourth. Brad Ableson is the co-director. He directed Minions : The Rise Of Gru.

The four Shrek movies have grossed $2.9bn in total worldwide.
