David Loughery died on Tuesday. He was 71.
Loughery’s filmography is filled with numerous credits. For Trekkies, his best-known work is the script he wrote for 1989’s Star Trek V : The Final Frontier. William Shatner’s film, directed by him, was a controversial installment that had many creative problems behind the scenes. He wrote two major Disn0.ey films from the ’90s: The Three Musketeers (1993) (starring Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland), and Tom & Huck (1995) (starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas).
Loughery was also a talented writer of thrillers. His filmography includes Passenger 57 (1992), Money Train (1995), Lakeview Terrace (2008), Obsessed (2009) and The Intruder (2019). The Netflix film End of the road, starring Queen Latifah in 2022, was his final release.
According to THR, loughery died of skin cancer. He died in St. Petersburg.
